Open to the public since June 22, 2010, the MM Gerdau – Museu das Minas e do Metal has established itself as a recognized institution in the country's culture. Over 1.6 million people have visited the museum during this period, with 200 thousand attending educational activities and another 300 thousand attending cultural and scientific activities, with free access to accessible information about the cultural and geological heritage of Minas Gerais and Brazil and, certainly, much more besides. In 2013, Gerdau became the sponsor of MM Gerdau, in a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the Government of Minas Gerais, through the Circuito Liberdade. Also, since 2010, the Museum has been part of the Circuito Liberdade, a cultural complex managed by the State Secretariat of Culture and Tourism (Secult) that brings together several spaces with the most varied forms of art and culture expression in conjunction with tourism. In 2024, MM Gerdau became part of Rota das Artes, an initiative by the Minas Gerais State Government that aims to promote economic development and job creation in the cities of the Inconfidentes region, covering eight cities: Belo Horizonte, São Joaquim de Bicas, Igarapé, Brumadinho, Congonhas, Ouro Branco, Ouro Preto and Mariana. MM Gerdau – Museu das Minas e do Metal offers a series of monthly initiatives and activities aimed at bringing the public closer to the themes addressed by the Museum. The initiatives are designed and developed by curators and are based on the scientific and technological “DNA” of MM Gerdau. In addition to the permanent exhibition and the mineral diversity that makes up the Museum's collection, temporary exhibitions with different themes, musical presentations and shows, discussion groups, workshops, training sessions, educational activities and celebration of anniversaries related to the Museum's themes are held periodically.
