Mahamuni Pagoda, located in Mandalay, is one of the most revered Buddhist sites in Myanmar. The pagoda is home to a highly venerated Buddha statue, believed to have been brought from India over 2,000 years ago. Pilgrims from all over Myanmar visit Mahamuni Pagoda to pay respects and offer gold leaf to the statue, which has become covered in a thick layer of gold. The pagoda itself is also a remarkable piece of architecture, with a golden stupa and intricately decorated halls.
