The beginning of the museum work in the city of Isperih is considered to be the founding of the "Khan Omurtag Regional Archaeological Society" back in 1927. Over the years, its members collected a small diverse collection of archaeological finds, which was stored in the community center "Saznanie" in the city. In the period 1956- In 1963, the regional lore circle at the community center added to it exhibits from the past of the native region" of a predominantly ethnographic nature, and the total number of objects reached 1711. They were stored in chests in various buildings until in November 1975, with the opening of a permanent museum exhibition in the newly built community center building, the citizens and guests of the city have the opportunity to see them. In 1978, the collection became a branch of the Regional Historical Museum in Razgrad. After the opening of the Priest's Tomb in 1982, the area of ​​Isperih became a center of complex scientific research under the "GETIKA" Program and the activity of the branch grew.In 1984 it received the status of an independent museum. Today, the History Museum - Isperih has departments of archaeology, ethnography, new and recent history, art and administrative-economic and restoration laboratory, in which 31 employees work - museum specialists, tour guides, restorer, technical specialists and security. Over 30,000 museum items are kept in its fund. It has equipped storage facilities and a laboratory, a conference hall and halls for permanent and temporary exhibitions, an ethnographic house, a reception center and archaeological bases in the IAR "Sboryanovo" and a windmill in the village of Belintsi. The museum takes care of the protection, maintenance, presentation and promotion of the immovable cultural heritage in the "Sboryanovo" IAR and takes part in its research.
