CARE's presence in Indonesia began in May 1967 under the name CARE International Indonesia which began with food distribution activities, providing food to schools, and small infrastructure projects in Central Java. In the 1980s, the focus of the CARE program expanded to include community development, especially in the areas of health, environment, water and sanitation.
