The National Monument (Monumen Nasional or Monas), standing majestically at 132 meters (433 feet) tall in the heart of Merdeka Square, Central Jakarta, serves as a poignant symbol of Indonesia's hard-fought independence struggle. Commissioned by President Sukarno in 1961 and unveiled to the public in 1975, Monas is crowned with a golden flame, representing the nation's enduring spirit. Open daily from 08.00 to 16.00 Western Indonesia Time (UTC+7), except Mondays, visitors can explore the monument and its museum, delving into Indonesia's rich history. Since April 2016, Monas has extended its hours, welcoming visitors into the night from 19.00 to 22.00 on Tuesday to Friday, and from 19.00 to 00.00 on Saturday and Sunday, inviting all to bask in its historic glow under the starlit sky.
