Ono is said to be connected to the Kagoteda Christian family, who defected to Nagasaki in 1599 due to oppression by the Matsuura clan, the feudal lord of Hirado. In 1893, Father de Rotz designed a stone church for the faithful and built it with his own money using his own funds.
