The Cibuaya site, situated in the agricultural heartland of Pejaten Hamlet, Cibuaya Village, Karawang Regency, West Java, lies approximately 6 km inland from the coastline amidst irrigated rice fields. Archaeological interest in this area was piqued by the discovery of two Vishnu statues in 1951 and 1957, initially examined by Boisselier in 1959 and further studied by Sutjipto Wirjosuparto and Edi Sedyawaty in 1963. Subsequent archaeological research in 1977 by the National Archaeological Research Center revealed three collapsed buildings in Lemah Duwur Lanang, Lemah Duwur Wadon, and a site known as Sector 3 in Lemah Duwur Lanang. Building plans at the Cibuaya site were further unveiled by the Archeology Department of FSUI in 1984 and the National Archaeological Research Center in 1992, shedding light on the historical significance of this ancient settlement.
